Handcrafted dresses from recycled t-shirts
What do you do if you’re
broke but want to look good? How
about teach yourself to sew dresses out of recycled t-shirts! That’s what
actor/writer Victoria Goring did.
Desperately poor, and feeling invisible through the constraints of poverty, this single mom by chance discovered a book on sewing, and by tenacity threw the book out and taught herself to sew.
The results are iconic dresses; Image a red column with a Heinz ketchup label, a dress featuring a barcode with ‘brand loyal customer” printed on the back, dresses featuring the fun, humorous slogans of t-shirts combined with the artistry of unique dress deigns.
These dresses are truly one of a kind, fun, washable, and made one invisible mom feel very visible.
Thanks, I made it, is an upbeat story that recreates this amazing journey. From the depth of sadness and isolation to the center of attention in a ball gown made out of 17 t-shirts, this is one mom who now stands out in a crowd of mass produced drabness.
